THE VOLTEX SERIES

"Artists take liberties to avoid accompanying the script,

and those remaining true to the narrative,

forfeit their prerogative to be empowered"

(Lopez-Espina, 2012)

My intention after completing Himba Woman was to do a series yielding fast results. Unfortunately, I once again recognized how much better works look when essentials are fully enhanced (the excuse always used by anal-retentive perfectionists).

Voltex is the name of my latest series. A new style allowing for two elements I have always loved, but never used. My fascination for textures and transparencies extend back decades, but for whatever reason, never used them in previous techniques. The first painting of this series, Voltex 01, was in fact a big test to try different approaches. As you will notice, Voltex 02 and 03 take a radical departure while retaining essentials from Voltex 01. This series will undergo other comprehensive transformations, but will preserve a visual connection amongst the works. Each painting in this series takes approximately six months to complete. If I ever learn to ignore those small flaws, future works shall take much less.
